City Synagogue (Fig. 74) was built on the ancient grounds, which have expanded and raised above the ground. It was located at a distance of one quarter of the main gate and got in among the buildings of the fortress walls, which were completely filled with sand, to raise and strengthen the protective wall (Fig. 75). As a result, after archaeologists removed the sand, they opened a little damaged wall with a niche for the Torah scrolls, while the two side walls were cut on the diagonal. 
Archaeologists have found that all the walls were painted with bright frescoes illustrating the main events and characters of the Old Testament - The Life of the Patriarchs, Exodus, scenes from the Book of Kings and the Book of Judges, as well as books of Esther. The artist clearly shows influences of Greco-Roman art, violated a ban on images of people and drew the characters of the Scriptures in the clothes that were his contemporaries.
