To save the surviving remnants of buildings, the Syrian authorities have built something like a huge canopy over the main part of a big palace Marie (photo 26). On the ground level in the area of excavation, covered glass dome, was the track. Later, we find ourselves in a labyrinth of more than 300 rooms, halls and corridors. The walls, once covered with stucco with magnificent frescoes, now stood naked. It was painful to realize that from a simple touch summand of bricks just fell to dust.

Choose from the below-ground parts to sunlight, we were among the extensive ruins of the kind that none of us had never seen. The ancient city was just incredible the size of the area. Everywhere were visible the stone steps that led to the now-existing buildings. Parts of buildings excavated yet. not touched, and the part was re-entered the earth and sand. Everywhere come across clay smithereens, there are those who selected them as a memento of the visit to Marie. Violated only silence our voices - the eternal peace of the palace is not worried, even wind noise.
At the entrance to the place of excavation was a fairly large canopy with table and benches around it. The only security guard said that we can relax here in the shade. We are located at the table and ate lunch, given to us at the hotel. Some have returned to make a few more pictures, we hardly hold back the excitement of what really are in Marie. I thought that we were lucky that the trip here, we visited the museum - otherwise Mary in our minds would be associated only with dust ruins.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, I stressed one important point. In response to my question, who was with me in Troy, raise a few hands. There, I explained, the discovery of Troy and associated artifacts proved the truth of stories told by Homer. If the city of Troy, King Priam, and demigod, there is actually - why, then, did not admit that there were also gods, and not mythical but very real. The same is true of Mary. The clay tablets in the royal archives preserved for us the names of kings, in museums, we see their statues, as well as images of city residents - Archaeologists believe all the facts. In addition, we saw the statue of the goddess, but when it comes to the gods, the scientists argue: the gods are only a myth, a product of imagination ...
Let me tell you, I continued, that is written on some of the plates found. During the first period of flowering of Mary, before the fall of Sumer and Akkad, the principal deity in these places was Dagan - as most scientists believe, this epithet Enlilya in the local dialect, although some suggested that this is another name Adada. In the second period of flowering Marie, about one hundred years after the fall of Sumer, the city is the main goddess Ishtar. Dagan away - namely, away - to rest in a nearby town Turk, where he built a dwelling-house.
